New Plants for 2017

This portion of the site provides a summary and description of plants introduced for the first time to the Bohn's Farm lineup for the current year.

Introduction of new plants to our already extensive lineup is the result of:

  • customer suggestions
  • recommendations from our diverse team of young plant producers
  • pant awareness resulting from custom production for our landscape professional customer
  • observations noted during our travels to professional conferences, botanical and educational institutions.

Tradescantia 'Charlotte's Web'

Spiderwort
Finally—a gold foliage Spiderwort that doesn’t burn in sun! Its grass-like leaves emerge in spring with a thin red margin on the edges of each leaf blade. The chartreuse foliage transitions to gold with more sun exposure. Small, three-petaled soft blue flowers cover the arching, bushy clumping habit. Like most Tradescantia of its type, flowers will open in the morning and close in the afternoon on sunny days. They may remain open on cloudy days. This easy care perennial is an excellent choice for gardeners looking for low maintenance or native perennials. It's no wonder this great performer was selected as a Proven Winner.

Trifolium '4 Luck CoCo Mint'

Clover
Exciting and versatile, it is a perennial ground cover and edger, a fantastic companion to other container plants, plus named 4 Luck due to its many four leaf clovers. 4 Luck Green Glow Clover’s two toned leaves of dark green and chartreuse create luscious carpets of rich color. In containers it mixes beautifully with other plants, gracefully cascading over the edges. Tolerant of extreme heat and cold, it works well in spring and summer pots, as well as cold weather pots containing pansies and other cold tolerant plants.

Trifolium '4 Luck Green Glow'

Clover
Beautiful 4-leaf clover--burgundy-brown foliage with green center. Besides their cold hardiness, they are very heat tolerant. This trifolium makes an excellent, fast-spreading groundcover, yet they aren't invasive.
