Lipstick red buds open to very large 8-9”, vibrant magenta red flowers with a deeper red eye and red stamens. The texture of the flower petals is very unique compared to other Hibiscus—they are distinctly puckered and crinkled, giving them added dimension. This incredibly floriferous new Hibiscus sets buds at the top 6-7 nodes up the stems compared to the top 3-4 on average.
The dramatic flower color really pops against the super dark green, maple-like foliage which takes on a tint of greyed purple late in the season. ‘Plum Fantasy’ forms an upright rounded clump in the landscape and makes a fantastic specimen plant for sunny landscapes.
