Allium 'Sugar Melt'

Ornamental onion has pink globular flower clusters July through September. Green grass-like foliage is somewhat twisted. Flowers are mildly fragrant. All parts of the plant have an oniony aroma when cut or bruised. Not as aggressive as other Allium varieties. Prefers full sun but tolerates some light afternoon shade in hot summer climates. Performs best in rich, sandy loams. Some drought tolerance once established.

Good edging plant for borders, beds and pathways.

Prefers well drained soil. Bulb rot may occur in moist soils. Deadhead flowers before seed sets to help control unwanted spread.
