Perennial
Small flowering variety has deep velvety 2-4" purple blooms June though September. A strong climber and vigorous grower. Recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 1993. Pruning group 3 blooms on new growth beginning in mid summer, and then again on new shoots in early fall. The second round will likely produce smaller flowers than the first. No need to prune this clematis unless it is too large for its space. If necessary to prune, do so in late winter or early spring.
